Medical Massage

A Medical Massage Therapy Center

During a massage, the therapist manipulates the muscles and other soft tissues of the body, often varying pressure and movement. The intent is to relax the soft tissues, increase delivery of blood and oxygen to the massaged areas, warm them, and decrease pain.

As a Medical Massage Center, all modalities of massage are offered including:

  • Swedish massage: Long strokes, kneading, and friction on the muscles and moves the joints to aid flexibility.
  • Deep Tissue/Therapeutic massage: Patterns of strokes and deep finger pressure on parts of the body where muscles are tight or knotted, focusing on layers of muscle deep under the skin. Relaxes and softens injured, tired, and overused muscles.
  • Trigger Point massage (also called pressure point massage): Uses a variety of strokes but applies deeper, more focused pressure on myofascial trigger points--"knots" that can form in the muscles, are painful when pressed, and cause symptoms elsewhere in the body as well.
  • Shiatsu massage or Acupressure: Varying, rhythmic pressure from the fingers on parts of the body to promote vital energy.

Massage to increase learning potential

We also specialize in massage to increase learning potential. Massage that stimulates the parasympathetic relaxation response is desired when working with students with ADHD, stress, or anxiety. Some modalities specific to learning potential are:

Cranial-sacral therapy: A gentle, non-invasive therapy which will free up any restrictions in the cranium or sacrum that could contribute to ADHD. Additionally, the movements used in this modality initiate the parasympathetic "rest and digest" response, as opposed to the "fight or flight" response.

Myofascial release: Bypasses the muscles by focusing on the fascia as one, large, connected system. Exceedingly gentle, the unwinding technique in Myofascial release activates the parasympathetic system. Similar to cranial-sacral, this will free any restrictions inhibiting energy flow, leading to tension release.

Massage stimulates the release of certain chemicals in the body, such as serotonin or endorphins.

Some types of massage are used 15 minutes in duration during a regular ProNeuro Health cognitive training session as needed and with parent permission for clients under 18 years of age.

Concussion Care Testimonial

"I was having headaches everyday due to concussions. My moods were unpredictable and I always felt like I was in a fog. I would have migraines at least once a week. I just didn't feel right and no one was able to tell me what was wrong. The neurologists I went to see would simply say I needed time to rest my brain after a concussion. They didn't tell me what part of my brain was affected or offer any form of treatment. I was frustrated and looking for anything to make me feel better. I went to Dr. Ruben as a last hope. Little did I know he was exactly what I needed. Dr. Ruben took his time to find out exactly what was wrong with me, bringing me not only piece of mind but also a solution. Today, I am feeling more like myself again. I haven't had a migraine in over two months and I can't remember the last time I had a headache. It was the first time in a long time that I felt like a doctor really cared. Thank you Dr. Ruben for giving me my life back!"

Client Testimonial

"I have been to other chiropractors, but none have provided the care or knowledge I received from Dr. St. Laurent. He was able to find the root causes to improve my brain chemistry.  His understanding of neurology and adjusting techniques had me back on my feet in a few days with less visits."

-Liza L.
